Event Details

Bill Geraci leads the workshop on How Computers Work - What You MUST Know. The course will cover the 5 levels of computering and their standard solutions, including hardware and software.

 

Morning session 9:30am - 11:30am
Lunch-on your own 11:30-12:30
Afternoon session 12:30-3:30pm

Plenty of time for Q&A during both sessions.

Here's the full agenda:

Morning Session: 

  • How Computers actually work (including a brief history of the Mac line)
  • An overview and framework to diagnose common computer problems
  • The common problems and usual solutions
  • Some basic terminology
  • The first three things to check and why
  • The basic things to set up a computer for use—best practices and interface tweaks
  • Connectors and why you care
  • Disaster recovery and backups
  • Upgrades and updates—what they mean, when to do them and how
  • Time for your questions!

Afternoon Session:

  • Networking
  • What is networking?
  • At the user and application and system settings levels
  • Wires and such in all their forms
  • What you need to know about wireless in all it’s forms
  • How should it work?
  • Troubleshooting Networking
  • Time for your questions

The best part is all, this will be aimed at *real people*, in terminology you can understand with real (and often humorous) examples.
